 Mashpee Congregational Church History

In 2005 the Mass Conference of the United Church of Christ (UCCF) identified Mashpee as a location to help start and grow a new church.

In 2007 Rev. Jim Scovil was called to be the full-time organizing Pastor and the church office opened at Starbucks in Mashpee Commons. The beginning Worship Services were held in the homes of congregants.

In 2008 the church moved to its current location in the Popponesset Marketplace.

This church would not have been able to grow and develop without the many donations, fundraisers, dedication, and hard work of its members.

Mashpee Congregational Church earned “full standing” status in 2010.

The music program began in 2008 being led by Cathy and Mike Bonnett and still to this day they lead it, bringing in many guest musicians, the church’s Vocal Choir, and the church’s Bell Choir.

Fundraising was hard work and lots of fun. Fundraisers over the years included Seaside Chic Boutique, Church Pies of Cape Cod, Pumpkin Patch, Game Days, Mashpee Octoberfest, Seaside Holiday Fair, and Golf Tournament, just to mention a few.

Many fun get-togethers have been had and are still going on developing a “family feel” for the members of this church. Potluck dinners, the annual lobster picnic, and coffee hours are among some of the events.

The Mission and Outreach Team began immediately in 2007 starting with cooking Friday night dinner for the Boys and Girls Club of Mashpee. Today they continue with the Boys and Girls Club of Mashpee, a Baby Center of Hyannis, Habitat for Humanity, CC Times Needy Fund, Mashpee First Responders, Here Now Ministries, One Shared Spirit, Mashpee Village, Alternative Gift Market, Upper Cape Chaplaincy, Cape Cod Council of Churches, and UCC Disaster Relief, and anywhere they see a need.

Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 2008 also and has the number of prayer shawls given over the years, all knitted or crocheted by members of the church, is too many to count.

The Green Team, organized in 2002, works to strengthen the church's mission and community outreach through "Creation Care" programs and practice. In June 2023, MCC received recognition as a Level 1 Green Concregation, part of a multi-year program sponsored by the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Pastors over the years have been Rev. Jim Scovil - Organizing Pastor, Rev. Jennie Valentine - Pastor, Rev. Bob MacFarlane - Interim Pastor, Rev. Steve Youd – Pastor, Rev. Sheldon Keller – Bridge Minister and Minister of Care and Visitation, Rev. Johnathan Singer – Designated Term Pastor, Rev. Bob Naylor – Bridge Minister, Rev. Sally Norris – Settled Pastor.

In August of 2023 Rev. R. Randy Day was called as the settled Pastor of Mashpee Congregation Church.
